By far our most popular service is what we refer to as our Enhancement Detail.
We get so many enquiries from potential customers asking what’s involved and what are the costs, we thought it would be a good idea to provide a little more detail on the process we typically follow when we carry out this service.
Whether the car is brand new or not, we firstly carry out a multi-stage deep clean and decontamination of all paint and glass to remove any embedded iron and tar deposits. Whether through years of driving on older cars or dockside/rail-side storage and transportation of new cars, this is always present and these steps are essential prior to going anywhere near the car with our machine polishers.
We then carry out a two stage machine polish – firstly to gently compound/level the clear coat to remove any surface micro scratches and swirl marks. This stage can take anything from a few hours to a few days- depending on the existing paint condition and level of perfection required. Once this stage is complete, the paint will usually have a slight haze to it as the cutting compounds have an abrasive quality designed to remove scratches. We then need to refine the paint back up to a very high gloss using a range of different sized softer pads and a finishing polish.
On a typical new car, this stage takes us a few hours before we are ready to apply paint protection. An essential step before applying any coatings or PPF is to remove every last trace of polishing oils from the paint with panel wipe or another alcohol based solution. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, they will have some filler properties and may mask imperfections that will later become apparent. Secondly, and of particular importance is that ceramic coatings are designed to form a bond with the clear coat and any residual oils could have a negative impact on the performance of the product.
Once we are happy that the paint is as flawless and as pure as possible, we recommend the application of Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra Ceramic coating. This is a professional only application product and comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee of 9 years – effectively locking in the gloss and making ongoing maintenance very easy. This coating is a 10h harness and is the industry benchmark – only available through Gtechniq Accredited detailers.
We then apply 2 coats of Gtechniq EXOv3 which is a super slick and glossy top coat – giving further protection and lasting hydrophobic properties to bead away rain etc.
The wheels and calipers (if painted) undergo the same decontamination process as the paint and glass (including chemical softening of tar spots then physical clay bar). We then coat them with Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour, which provides a high temperature tolerant protective barrier against brake dust, iron deposits and tar for ongoing ease of maintenance.
Interior leather is deep cleaned and protected with Gtechniq L1 Leather Guard. This helps protect against dye transfer on light coloured leather and helps prevent dark leather turning shiny and aged looking.
Fabrics (inc carpets and mats) are also protected with Gtechniq I1 Fabric Guard.
The engine bay is cleaned and dressed and the external trim and tyres are dressed for final presentation.
The price we charge for this complete service starts at £700 for a new hatchback sized car through to £1,250 for a something lot bigger or complicated.
We would need your car for three days whilst this is a little more expensive than a dealership would charge for their mass market products, you will have peace of mind that the work has been carried out properly, by people who really care about your care and with professional grade products that offer real value for money.
